Fashion show hopes to raise AIDS awareness

Models for the AIDS Awareness Fashion Show display fashionable clothing to promote a cause.
Statesboro,GA- The AIDS Awareness Fashion Show was hosted by Eagle Entertainment and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Society of Georgia Southern University on Thursday to bring more awareness to the AIDS epidemic.
The event had a MC who told a few jokes, students who performed spoken word, an all-girl step team from Statesboro High, whose message was to “stomp on AIDS,” and a singer.
These different acts performed in between the different model displays with country inspired clothing.
The clothing was designed and modeled by Georgia Southern Students. The students who presented their country inspired clothing included, April Campbell (Australia), Jihan Gary (Italy), Tameka Phillips (Japan), and Andrew Zoswago (Africa).
The event displayed two big screens on stage that showed the effect of AIDS in our world today.
According to the presentation:
• 15 million AIDS orphans are in the world
• Over 300,000 children were infected with HIV this year
• Approximately half the world acquire HIV before age 25 and typically die before they turn 35
• 8 million in 1990 and 33 million people today have died from HIV
• In developing countries, 9.7 million people are in immediate need of life saving AIDS drugs; only 2.99 million (31 percent) are receiving these drugs
Free condoms were distributed before and after the fashion show to promote sexual protection from AIDS and HIV.
