Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Musicale
The Georgia Southern University Department of Music presented the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Musicale on Thursday at the Carol A. Carter Recital Hall.
The musicale contained multiple group and individual performances from members of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.
The event began with a group singing performance from all members of the fraternity. “Hail Sinfonia,” an opera-based song, was adopted from Sir Arthur Sulliven and arranged by Louis Victor Saar.
Lee Jones (Flugelhorn) and Brandon Henson (Piano) performed the jazz standard, “I Remember Clifford,” written by Benny Goldon, in memory of trumpeter Clifford Brown.
In commenting about his performance, Henson said, “Piano isn’t my main instrument, it’s the trumpet. I’ve been learning piano from my piano classes as a music major and it was fun to perform using some of the techniques I was taught.”
Here are a few more highlights from concert:
Jordan Hofmeister (Trumbone) performs a section from “Concert: pour Trombone et Piano,” written by Launy Grondahl.
Alex Sellers (Alto Saxophone) performs Improvisation 2, written by Ryo Noda.
The Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, a Zeta Omicron chapter, was established in 1953 as the first Greek organization at Georgia Southern University. It started as a fraternity for men who loved music, to come together, share experiences, and better themselves as well as their community.
