Chia Obama Recall
Walgreens stores across America recently pulled Obama Chia pets from their stores after a one week test run due to numerous complaints from customers about the novelty item’s offensive appearance.
"We decided to pull the product because it didn't fit with our corporate image," Walgreens spokesman Robert Elfinger said in a recent company statement. "We also didn't want to be subject to any misinterpretation over the product. People could interpret it through a political viewpoint or other viewpoints and we want to avoid that situation."
Chia Obama is the first Chia to embody a president.
Joe Pedott, president of Joseph Enterprises, the company behind the Obama Chia, reported to the Chicago Tribune that the bust is “totally patriotic”. Being dropped from Walgreens hasn’t stopped Obama Chia though as it is still being sold online at websites including, Amazon.com , Chiaobama.com , and Drugstore.com, though with 200,000 more Chia Obamas still sitting in a warehouse in, Joseph Enterprises is still hoping to find a major retailer to stock the clay "patriotic" bust.
