Career Fair Convenient For Students, Employers

Wachovia, Target, International Revenue Service and the CIA were a few of the 84 businesses that took part in the Career Fair Georgia Southern University held Wednesday at the Recreational Activity Center (RAC).

GSU students dressed to impress with resumes in hand along with samples of their work to network with employers and find out more about the companies in attendance.

“The career fair is awesome, it is kind of like an informal interview, you get to mingle with actual company personnel and maybe even set up an interview,” said senior Reuben Yancey, an International Studies major.

The career fair is a stepping stone to getting the students acclimated with the business world.

Flyers listed with tips and advice on how to conduct greetings, questions, and etiquette while attending were issued upon arrival.

GSU alumni John Sutz attended the GSU career fair last year, where he was given the opportunity that he has today, as a logistics associate with Target.

“The career fair allows our company to inquire about future talent,” said Sutz. “We also get involved with the classes around GSU and try and set up interviews right here on the spot. Six students were hired just last year through this technique alone.”

Junior Business major Josh Milteer said that the career fair made it convenient for students to network with employers.

“I love the fact that I walked here, and that I didn’t have to wait for a phone call to feel as if I was accomplishing something,” Milteer said. “I have met several welcoming people that have helped me with my career path today alone.”

The career fair is offered by GSU twice a year, once during the spring semester and then again in the fall. For more information visit the career services website.
